A message from the President:
It is my pleasure to invite all members of the Saint Michael’s community to join together for the kickoff of our 2014 United Way Campaign on Thursday, October 9 at 9:00 a.m. with brunch in the Dion Family Student Center, or at the third-shift kick-off breakfast, Thursday, October 9 at 6:30 a.m. in the Vermont Room.
This will be the start of an exciting one-month campaign, ending on Wednesday, October 29, under the leadership of our United Way Committee, co-chaired by David Barrowclough and Allison Gardner. A closing event is scheduled for the 29th at 3:00 p.m. (more details will be sent out as we get closer to the date.) Committee members are Angie Armour, George Ashline, Donna Bozzone, Steve Burks, Marilyn Cormier, Mary Beth Doyle, Lisa Lagerquist, Dave Landers, Mark Litchfield, Mike New, Rob Robinson, Kendra Smith, Laura Stroup, Jerry Swope, Jane Viens and Tobin Weltin. The committee has come up with the theme “United Way Wednesdays” which means that you will only hear from them on Wednesdays – each with a theme, during the month of October.
The College is a strong supporter of United Way and has been for many years, and our goal is to maintain the participation rate of 55%! The focus of the campaign this year will be on the strong connections that Saint Michael’s College has to the United Way. We are asking students, faculty and staff to reflect about what the United Way means to them – these messages will be communicated during the campaign. We’re also reaching out to those employees who have a history of giving – we will be asking these ambassadors to visit with their coworkers to share the reason they give. By taking a more grassroots approach, we hope to drive participation and make giving a more meaningful and personal experience. To highlight the United Way campaign activities and the spirit of volunteerism that already thrives on campus, we will be using the hashtag #smcvtuww. Please use #smcvtuww when participating in a United Way event or sharing your story about what the United Way means to you.
Saint Michael’s staff and faculty have made generous United Way donations in the past; the need for your support is greater than it has been before. Your contribution—of any size—helps show how much we care about others in our area, individuals who simply have less than we. I encourage your participation in all aspects of the United Way Campaign, and I look forward to seeing you at the Community Kickoff at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, in the Dion Family Student Center. Thank you!
